Does Google try to give the opportunity to rank over huge corporations, like Amazon, and Staples for smaller business websites in specific niches?

Yes. I think this is something that’s interesting about the web in general, you’re a small business and you have the ability to focus on something small and unique–something that’s really interesting for you where you have a lot of expertise where you know there are some users out there on the web- then that’s something you can definitely do and focus on that. And you can become the expert in that specific niche. And big companies like Amazon and Staples, in this case, they often don’t have the time to actually focus on these smaller niches. So that’s something where if you can find something small, where the small part is big enough for you to really survive well, and you’re not competing with something these big companies are doing, that’s a great situation. That’s something where I think there’s a lot of opportunity on the web. The one thing that I’d watch out for is that you’re not some small website and you’re trying to do exactly the same as these big players are doing and trying to compete, essentially, on their playing field, because that’s something where you as a small player are just going to have a really hard time to actually compete on that level. But if you can find something that is maybe similar to what they’re doing but it focuses on a really small and unique area, then I would definitely go for that.
