If I want to link to an external source because I think it would be good for the user is there any benefit in even having it?Should I do a no follow? And if so, how will Google recognize the benefit of the link in my content if it doesn’t follow it?

So if you have a link in your content that you think makes sense for your users,I’d definitely include that.If it makes sense for your users,if it adds value to your pages, then by all means do that.If this is a natural link, so not something that is there because you have some kind of a relationship with the other website, then I’d definitely just use a normal followed link.So nothing special. No need to block the flow of page rank there. If it’s a normal link, just use a normal link.
