Watercolorpainting.com, the first menu item water color university videos is giving power to a subdomain with parameter lessons watercolor. Is the parameter a problem?
JOHN MEULLER (Webmaster Analyst from Google):
I guess we should keep the power on the main domain and remove the sub-domain.” So in general, subdomains are not a problem. If you want to use subdomains within your website, that’s something you can definitely do. Sometimes there are technical reasons to use subdomains, or to say, I prefer to use one domain and use subdirectories, but that’s more up to you. From my point of view, I think focusing on one domain makes it easier to diagnose issues, but that’s essentially up to you. With regards to a parameter in the URL, that’s also totally up to you. If you want to use parameters in URLs, we can definitely work around that, or work with that, better said. The important part might be to double check the parameter handling tool in Search Console, that you’re not accidentally blocking these parameters on your side. But from our point of view, parameters are fine as URLs.
