Which is the preferred sitemap for Google users, sitemap on a webpage, or XML sitemap in Search Console?
JOHN MEULLER (Webmaster Analyst from Google):
These are very different types of things. So they have very different goals. On the one hand, having an HTML sitemap page within your website can make sense for usability reasons. On other hand, the XML site map, or an RSS feed, an add-on feed, they help us to help Search Engine, and which pages are new and haven’t updated faster. So they have a similar name, which makes it really confusing, but they have very different purposes.
